Environmental and Biological Laboratory

Analytical and Measurement services are carried out in the Environmental Laboratory related to the different environmental components: air, water, soil, sediment, and waste of diverse types, etc. by means of physico-chemical and bacteriological tests, always based on national and international recognised or standardised methods as well as supporting the monitoring programmes of the environmental quality. The Biological Laboratory as a specialised department of the Environmental Laboratory performs the taxonomic determinations of animal and plant organisms.

Our services include the sampling, analysis and characterization of physiochemical and microbiological variables of water, sediment and soil types, among which they include the control of the organoleptic features and characterization of the trace elements, the quality of water for public consumption (Directive 75/440/CEE), the quality of bathing water and the control of underground water, among other related activities.

Consulting Services for the application of Green Treatments, such as phytoremediation and bioremediation and their integration in Restoration projects. Action protocols to face contingencies and accidental dumping/spills in the natural environment.

Design of the sampling and sample collection, as well as in situ measurements and analysis in land, freshwater (lotic and lentic), coastal marine and oceanic ecosystems. Preservation, conservation and processing of biological samples as well as the Taxonomical Determinations of Animal and Plant organisms, mosses, lichens, fungi, pathogens, etc.

Sampling, analysis, calculation of the indexes of the Biological Quality elements established by the Water Framework Directive.

We specialise in Organism Identification based on their remains (bones, fur, feathers, shells, excrement, pellets, etc.) and based on their footprints, songs, ultrasonic, evidence, images, etc.). We rely on a cutting-edge organism identification line at the species level by means of Molecular Genetic, techniques which make it possible to obtain completely reliable results based on alternative information sources such as tissues, bone remains, feathers, etc. Execution of autopsies and identification of the causes of death, as well as the analytical study of the toxic substances in the biological tissues, egg shells, etc. Food/nutrition, ecological, and ethological studies based on the study of the gastric contents, faeces, pellets and other food remains.
