Renewable energies

The Renewable Energies, such as wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, tidal power, solar power, wave energy, biomass power and biofuels are methods which use clean inexhaustible resources which are provided by nature. Compared with conventional energy sources (petroleum, coal, natural gas or nuclear energy), the so-called green energies have a lower impact since their use minimises the emission of (greenhouse) gases which pollute the atmosphere. However, renewable energies can also involve major environmental impacts.

Our services include the appraisal of the potential energy resources and the technical consulting services for the selection of the sites, the Construction Alternatives or Power Generation technologies. We specialise in the Environmental Adaptation of Technical Projects and in the correction of the negative effects of the different types of renewable energy sources.

  • Hydroelectric Power. Connectivity, restoration and landscape integration plans of the hydraulic and mini-hydraulic power plants. Minimisation of the fluvial connectivity loss, barrier effect, control of erosion phenomenon, silting up and the correction of the impacts of dams and conduits. Water quality control, eutrophication, ecological flow calculations, bionomic characterizations, (icthyofauna, zooplankton phytoplankton, macroinvertebrates, etc.), as well as the application of the Water Framework Directive (WFD). Impact Condition Studies on aquatic invertebrates such as mussels and vertebrates linked to the fluvial environment such as the Pyrenean desman, the European mink, the otter or Atlantic salmon.
  • Land Wind Energy. Modelling of the Environmental Noise generated by the wind turbines, collision risk studies for bats (Chiroptera) and bird species, installation of collision deterrent devices, underground insertion of evacuation lines, restoration and landscape integration.
  • Tidal Power, Wave Energy and Marine Wind Energy. Coastal dynamic studies of marine ecosystems, Bionomic Characterizations (icthyofauna, zooplankton, phytoplankton, macroalgae, cetaceans, marine bird species, etc.) and water quality control. Assessment of the ecological balance and diagnosis of the environmental and socio-economic effects.
  • Solar Power. Visual Impact Conditions and microclimate studies that affect the environment. Landscape Integration Plans.

Integral backup support in the Environmental Strategy Assessment (ESA) or Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) , preparation of the Environmental Impact Studies (EIS) and Environmental Monitoring Plans, designing the preventive, protective, minimizing, corrective and compensation measures and finally executing the Environmental Follow-ups (EF).

Correction of the negative effects of the biogas and biofuel plants. Emission balance studies, control of dumping/spills, emissions, waste and other environmental factors. Installation of measurement equipment for the Environmental Follow-up and the implantation of an early warning network for accidental emissions and dumping/spills.
